Christmas guest room ideas to consider

#rise and shine #christmas

When it comes to having guests over for Christmas, there’s a lot to think about, including what food you’ll serve or the gifts you’ll buy them. One thing that may also be on your mind is providing a comfortable sleeping environment for your guests. That’s why we’ve prepared some Christmas guest room ideas so your guests can find their sleeping sanctuary a bit festive for a night of silent sleep.

How to prepare a guest room

The best way you can start preparing your guest room is by cleaning it. Spare bedrooms are often used for storage, so it’s important to clear up clutter and open up windows to let some air in before you get started on the sleeping arrangements.

Why not think about your guests' sleeping requirements too? If your guests have any allergies, read our guide on how to prepare a bed to combat allergies, so you can help them feel comfortable. We would recommend giving your mattress a quick clean by vacuuming up any dust that has accumulated on the mattress itself so your guest feels more comfortable. Debris can often build up underneath the sheets, especially if you don’t use your guest bedroom often.

We’d also recommend refreshing your guests’ bedding to improve their sleeping experience. Bedding in guest rooms can build up bacteria and smells, which affects sleep wellness. For an extra special treat, why not buy your guests some new Christmas bedding? Opt for calming festive colours like green combined with lighter, cleaner colours such as white or cream.

Guest room essentials

Besides bedding, you might want to consider adding some extra touches to your guest room over the festive season to allow your guests to wake up to a nice Christmas morning. Why not add some toiletries, such as toothpaste or shampoo to really improve their stay? You can also opt for some personal touches, such as fresh flowers for their arrival or some reading material they might like.

When you’re thinking about your guest staying at Christmas, have a think about how their bedtime routine might look. We’d really recommend having a look at sleep products that can help your guest awaken their best during their stay with you. Getting comfortable in a different bed can be hard for guests but with sleep products such as a white noise machine or a good quality pillow, it will bring them added comfort in your guest room because these products have an array of benefits.

One thing you might want to consider before your guests arrive is the type of pillow they might want. If your guest is a side sleeper they will most likely need a firm pillow. If they are a stomach sleeper instead, they may want a low loft pillow to keep their body properly aligned during sleep. Have a think about the kind of pillow you want your guest to sleep on during the festive period so they can wake up feeling refreshed.

Christmas guest room ideas

Your regular guest room can become a Christmas guest room with some festive additions. You might want to add some decorations to the guest room, such as a small Christmas tree or some baubles but we would recommend keeping this subtle, so as not to overwhelm your guest in the room they’ll be sleeping in. One tip to improve the atmosphere in the guest room is to add some lights close to the bed, perhaps not the flashing kind but some calming neutral colours that will help your guest wind down.

Some thoughtful additions

If there’s any time for sleeping luxury for your guest bedroom, it's definitely over the festive period. If you want to add some extra products to your guest room, Emma has a range of products that can vastly improve your guest room over the festive period. Why not have a look at the types of pillows Emma has available?

Emma also conducted a study that suggested that weighted blankets can help people fall asleep faster, which may make your guests feel more comfortable when they stay with you.

How to warm your bedroom this winter

The warm summer nights have come to an end and it is time for us to attempt to battle the  cold winter evenings. Keeping your bedroom warm this winter will unfortunately be more difficult than ever due to the increase in energy costs in the UK. The major factor that will affect our energy cost is how often we rely on our boiler and central heating system to keep us warm. If used less, it will save us a lot of money on our energy bills. There are other methods that we can use to keep our homes and bedrooms warm and cosy during these winter months so that we do not have to rely on using more energy than required.  In this guide, we run through some of the ways to keep your bedroom warm during the current UK energy crisis without spending too much money on gas and electricity bills.
